Jane has been working with stone, sculpture and historic buildings for almost twenty years. She originally trained as a conservator / restorer at Lincoln College of Art and Design, specialising in stone and sculpture. Following her completion of a Masters Degree in stone and sculpture at Bournemouth University in 1996, Jane went on to spend six years at Lincoln Cathedral Works Department where she became Head Conservator. After a year 'hands off' with the Building Conservation and Research Team at English Heritage's head office, she went back to the tools, working in private practice primarily for Cliveden Conservation (formerly The National Trust's workshops), and Skillington Workshop, Lincolnshire.
An interest in letter carving led to a short letter cutting course at the Orton Trust in 2001, sparking a great enthusiasm for the art. She went on to become an informal apprentice over a period of three years to the highly regarded letter cutter John Shaw. Since then, Jane has undertaken a wide range of commissions for ecclesiastical clients, private individuals and the Armed Forces.
Jane works from her workshop on the family farm in Lincolnshire where she lives with her husband Jim and two young children, Emma and Harry.
